Frequently asked questions
How does Brown FM create brown noise?
Your iPhone creates it live while you listen, rolling fresh random numbers thousands of times a second and smoothing them into a deep rumble. There is no recording or looping track. Learn more about how Brown FM works.
How do I use Siri and Shortcuts?
Ask Siri to play or pause Brown FM, set or cancel a sleep timer, change the volume, choose a saved sound, check playback status, or show your listening insights. Try “Play Brown FM,” “Set a sleep timer in Brown FM,” or “Show my Brown FM insights.” Open Shortcuts below to use every action in personal automations.
How do I add a widget?
On the Home Screen, touch and hold an empty area, tap Edit, then Add Widget. Search for Brown FM, choose a widget and size, and tap Add Widget. For the Lock Screen, touch and hold the screen, tap Customize, select the Lock Screen, and tap a widget area to add Brown FM. You can also add Brown FM from Add a Control in Control Center.
Which widgets are supported?
Brown FM supports Home Screen widgets for play or pause, the sleep timer, your listening streak, and last-night insights. It also includes Lock Screen playback and timer widgets, Control Center playback and timer controls, and a timer Live Activity with Dynamic Island support.
Can I customize the sound?
Open Sound from the player to adjust depth, texture, space, and movement. You can save combinations into the available sound slots and ask Siri or a Shortcut to select a saved sound later.
Where can I see my listening history?
Open Insights from the player’s top-left toolbar. Brown FM shows your total listening time, current and best streaks, recent nights, and your seven-night average from sessions stored on this device.
Does Brown FM need an internet connection?
Brown FM generates sound on your device, so playback continues offline after subscription access has been verified. An internet connection is required for the first purchase, purchase restoration, and occasional subscription verification.
Why did playback stop?
A completed sleep timer, an incoming call, another app taking over audio, or a disconnected audio device can stop playback. Return to Brown FM and tap Play after the interruption is over.
